Warehouse Membership Military Offers: Sam’s Club and Costco
Sam’s Club’s military-linked offer reduces the qualifying first-year membership payment to $20 Club or $50 Plus before tax. Costco’s public new-member promotion instead pairs full membership dues with a later Digital Shop Card. Compare what you pay now, which conditions you meet, and what you may receive later; neither is a blanket discount on warehouse purchases.

A lower first payment is different from a later card
Sam’s Club’s $20/$50 figures are qualifying initial membership prices. Its $10 renewal credit is Sam’s Cash with later timing and additional conditions, so it is not subtracted from the joining payment.
Costco’s public Join page shows a general enrollment promotion of $20 Digital Shop Card for Gold Star or $40 for Executive, subject to its conditions. That evidence does not establish a military-exclusive benefit or a lower upfront fee. The military verification route is separate, and its full terms were not readable in this check.
Using the cited dues and card values, $65 − $20 = $45 and $130 − $40 = $90 are only conditional nominal value comparisons if the card is received and fully used. The checkout fee remains $65 or $130, plus applicable tax. A Shop Card is not a cash refund.
Renewal and membership-history rules are not interchangeable
Sam’s linked military offer uses a 24-month prior-membership condition; Costco’s general enrollment promotion uses 18 months and includes primary, household and affiliate membership history. Neither rule is transferred to the other warehouse.
Both renewal charges depend on applicable membership terms and the fee in effect at renewal. A first-year incentive does not promise a repeat incentive every year. Sam’s landing terms say to cancel auto-renew at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the charge; Costco’s member conditions specify at least 72 hours before the first day of the renewal month. Check each store’s actual account schedule.
Use the source that matches the benefit
Sam’s membership offer, its purchase-earned Plus rewards, and Costco’s Digital Shop Card have different bases and timing. Do not rank them by adding percentages or treating a future credit as cash already saved.
Costco’s military verification link was found on its official Join page, but its underlying verification terms were unreadable. The general Join-page incentive is labeled as general here. Unknown does not mean no offer or unlimited rights.
