Progressive Military Discount: Deployment and Louisiana Rules
A uniform nationwide Progressive military discount percentage was not verified. Progressive does confirm a Continuous Insurance Discount exception for gaps caused by overseas deployment. Louisiana separately requires a 25% reduction on qualifying automobile liability premiums for specified military personnel; that is not 25% off every coverage or a nationwide offer. Its Louisiana motorcycle and RV pages also list military discounts without giving a rate. Confirm your state, product and eligible premium before calculating savings.

Louisiana: 25% applies to liability, not every policy charge
Section A of Louisiana R.S. 22:1482 requires authorized motor-vehicle insurers to give the specified discount to active-duty personnel, military reservists, Louisiana Air National Guard and Louisiana Army National Guard personnel based in the state. It concerns automobile liability policies purchased in Louisiana for vehicles owned by those personnel.
Section B separately concerns insurer tax credits. It also names retired military and veterans with disability of at least 50%. LDI describes offers to these additional groups as voluntary for insurers. The credit belongs to the insurer; it is not a separate payment to the applicant. Progressive’s voluntary participation for your category was not established.
Ask Progressive to confirm your qualifying category, documentation and the liability-premium amount used. The state statute supplies the legal rule; no personalized Progressive quote, filing or eligibility determination was obtained. Regulation 81 §9511(A) specifies bodily-injury/property-damage liability, medical payments and uninsured-motorist premiums, including the stated expenses and policy fees. This is not a comprehensive/collision or whole-bill discount.

Louisiana documentation and the announced form change
LDI’s August 4, 2026 announcement calls for current orders showing a Louisiana assignment for active-duty personnel and reservists, or a commander’s letter on official unit letterhead for Louisiana Guard members. Submit the current state application and proof through the insurer or agent.
The announcement describes a one-time application. Bulletin 2026-11, dated August 3, calls the Regulation 81 amendment proposed/in process and retains exceptions for a new policy or reasonable eligibility concerns. The published November 2020 regulation still contains renewal re-execution language. Confirm the procedure with the insurer; this review did not verify a final amended regulation or submit a form.

Overseas deployment and continuous-insurance history
Progressive’s own lapse article says a gap caused by overseas military deployment does not remove its Continuous Insurance Discount. It does not publish a military percentage for that exception.
The general discount directory says the amount depends on continuous-insurance history and applies at the first policy renewal. Its footnote marks the general continuous-insurance program unavailable in California. The military paragraph does not separately describe a California override or a complete list of evidence needed, so confirm those details for your policy.
This is treatment of discount eligibility after a qualifying gap. It is not retroactive insurance during the gap, a promise that your overall rate cannot rise, or a free policy. The article also says a lapsed policy cannot be backdated to cover an earlier accident.
Official deployment-gap explanation; Continuous Insurance program terms.
State and product lists do not establish a nationwide auto rate
Progressive’s Louisiana motorcycle and RV pages explicitly include a military discount in their product-specific lists. Neither list gives its percentage, complete premium base, service-category checklist or fixed expiry. Those fields remain unknown.
The Louisiana auto page and the general auto-discount directory do not display the same dedicated military entry in the bodies reviewed. A missing directory line does not override state law or prove that every applicant will be refused. Equally, a motorcycle or RV listing does not prove a uniform military discount on auto, home or every other product.
A cheaper policy with less coverage is a different comparison
Progressive’s suspension article says it does not technically offer a policy-suspension option, although coverage can be reduced or the policy canceled. The article discusses overseas deployment as one situation in which drivers may ask about changes.
Removing protection can lower a bill without making identical protection cheaper. The article warns about state requirements, lender or lease obligations and risks to a vehicle even when it is not being driven. Discuss the actual remaining coverage and effective dates before changing anything; this guide did not change a policy or recommend canceling one.
No fixed Progressive military storage percentage was established. Do not borrow another insurer’s storage rate.
Ordinary discounts are not military percentages
Progressive lists discounts for factors such as multiple policies, multiple vehicles, safe driving and how a policy is purchased or paid. Advertised averages for those programs do not establish a military-status rate or predict one person’s savings.
The official FAQ allows multiple eligible discounts but says automatic-payment and pay-in-full discounts cannot be combined. Eligibility is reviewed at renewal. Do not add several headline averages together, and do not deduct a headline percentage again from a quote that already includes it.
Keys to Progress is a vehicle giveaway, not a general premium discount
Several search results concern Keys to Progress. Its official rules describe a selective vehicle-giveaway program, with eligibility, documentation and judging requirements. It is not an entitlement to cheaper insurance for every veteran.
The personal-vehicle rules list April 3 through August 7, 2026 as the entry window and November 10, 2026 as the giveaway event. The program overview says the 2026 application window is closed. These are application and event dates, not the end date of a military insurance discount.

What to confirm with Progressive
- Identify the state, insurance product and actual service category for the policy.
- Ask which military-related rule applies: a state requirement, deployment-gap exception or a product-specific discount.
- Confirm the eligible premium components, actual rate, start or renewal timing and required documents.
- Keep any reduction of coverage separate from a discount on unchanged coverage.
- Compare the same drivers, vehicles, policy period, coverages, limits and deductibles.
Use Progressive’s official quote/contact page for policy-specific confirmation. No application, quote, verification or policy update was performed for this review.
Calculate only from a confirmed rate and base
For a confirmed discount, saving = r × P, where r is the actual applicable rate and P is the confirmed eligible premium for the same period. For the Louisiana statutory rule, use 0.25 × L only when eligibility is established and L is the confirmed premium base under the Louisiana calculation rule, including its listed coverages and expenses/fees.
Do not substitute the total bill for the liability base. A dollar result cannot be calculated from a percentage alone, and no premium amount is assumed here. The same percentage does not mean the same saving. Compare the final quote for equivalent protection.
Keep review, article and policy dates separate
Sources were checked September 22, 2026. The lapse and suspension articles show August 15, 2023; the Louisiana motorcycle and RV articles show August 8 and December 5, 2024 respectively. These are displayed article-update dates, not benefit expiry dates.
The statute’s latest listed amendment took effect January 1, 2025. That is a legal effective date. First policy renewal is a program timing condition. The reviewed pages did not establish a uniform nationwide military-offer expiration date.
