# American Airlines Military Discount

**Who to contact:** call Reservations at [800-433-7300](tel:18004337300), the official English-language number for the U.S. and Canada. Ask about the fare available for your trip.

**Who qualifies:** the Fares paragraph does not enumerate ordinary military-fare eligibility for active-duty personnel, veterans, retirees, reservists, National Guard members or dependents. Check your eligibility with Reservations; missing detail is not an official refusal.

A unified ordinary military-fare percentage, fixed ticket amount and general discount code were not confirmed in the reviewed official text. The published instruction is to call; it does not expressly state that military fares cannot be purchased online. [Official Fares section](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html); [official contact page, U.S. and Canada](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/contact-american/reservations-and-ticket-changes.html). ## Official findings and external claims

Only the left column records official findings. External claims do not fill unconfirmed fields.

| What the reviewed American pages establish | What external pages claim |
| --- | --- |
| **Program:** government or military fares are offered in some markets, with a Reservations inquiry instruction. This does not promise availability on every route. [Fares](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim a military fare is available. |
| **Unified percentage:** Not confirmed in this review. A fixed ordinary military-fare amount and general discount code are also unconfirmed. A member vacation-package percentage is not substituted for the missing airfare rate. [Fares and the following vacation-membership paragraph](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim percentage savings are available. |
| **Channel price difference:** Not confirmed in this review. The instruction to call Reservations does not establish equal or different website, app, phone and counter military prices, or an explicit prohibition on online purchase. [Fares](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html); [Worldwide phone numbers](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/contact-american/reservations-and-ticket-changes.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim military fares are available only by telephone. |
| **Eligibility:** a category-by-category ordinary military-fare qualification list is not confirmed in the Fares paragraph. Baggage and vacation-membership conditions are separate. [Fares, vacation-membership paragraph and Bags](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim military personnel, veterans and families qualify. |
| **Military-specific stacking:** complete ordinary military-fare stacking and specific points-redemption rules are not confirmed in this review. External package statements and other airlines' rules are not imported. [Fares](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim additional promotions and mileage benefits are available. |
| **Verification:** the complete ordinary military-fare verification process and exact check stage are not confirmed. The separately published counter-document requirements concern baggage on orders. [Fares](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html); [Military bags](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/baggage/specialty-and-sports.html). Checked 2026-09-15. | External pages claim military identification is checked. |

Not confirmed does not mean zero, no benefit or ineligible.

## Fares: ask about your market

The official Fares paragraph says:

We offer government or military fares in some markets. Call Reservations for more information.

[Military benefits, Fares](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html), checked 2026-09-15. This quotation does not establish a universal discount or a fare for every itinerary.

- Use the official Contact Reservations link from the Fares section.

- For English-language assistance in the U.S. and Canada, call 800-433-7300 to ask about the government or military fare for your trip.

[Reservations and ticket changes, Within the U.S. and Canada](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/contact-american/reservations-and-ticket-changes.html), checked 2026-09-15. The general contact page also notes possible ticketing service fees in some locations. That general notice is not a measured military-fare channel price difference.

The reviewed Fares paragraph does not give a complete identity-check sequence, universal eligibility list or military-specific stacking rule. This review did not obtain a ticket quote, complete a booking or verify a traveler's status. No invented ticket price or savings calculation is supplied.

## Bags: purpose, identity and operating airline matter

The main benefits page makes free bags destination-dependent and requires active U.S. military identification. The allowance applies to itineraries marketed and operated by American. Partner-operated codeshare flights are excluded.

- **Travel on orders:** up to five complimentary bags, each up to 100 pounds, subject to the published dimensions and conditions.

- **Personal or leisure travel:** up to three complimentary bags, each up to 50 pounds and 62 total inches in width, length and height.

Sources: [Bags and its itinerary footnote](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html); [Military bags](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/baggage/specialty-and-sports.html). Checked 2026-09-15.

### Documents for baggage on orders

Active U.S. military personnel traveling on orders must present military ID and orders at the check-in counter. A military dependent traveling on orders receives the stated privileges by presenting a Military Dependent ID and a copy of active orders. These are baggage-document requirements, not an established ordinary military-fare verification workflow.

### The baggage definition and exclusions

The Military bags footnote defines active U.S. military personnel by active status in the listed armed forces and includes cadets. It expressly excludes customers with a Civilian Military ID, US Public Health Service, Military Reserves and National Guard. These exclusions belong to this baggage rule; they do not establish that those groups are refused an ordinary military fare.

[Military bags, document instructions and identity footnote](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/baggage/specialty-and-sports.html), checked 2026-09-15.

### A dated baggage-size comparison

For travel on orders, the official page lists a maximum total dimension of **126 inches for travel on or before April 16, 2024**, and **115 inches for travel on or after April 17, 2024**. The stated weight limit is 100 pounds in both cases.

This is a historical-versus-later baggage-size rule comparison from the linked Military bags page. It is not a ticket-price comparison, an ordinary-fare offer deadline or a feature imported into the military-benefits landing page. [Military bags](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/baggage/specialty-and-sports.html), checked 2026-09-15.

## Boarding: Group 1 with valid military ID

The dedicated boarding-order table places active-duty U.S. military personnel with valid military ID in **Group 1**.

The military-benefits summary describes Group 1 military boarding together with First customers. The dedicated boarding-process table lists First separately from Group 1. Both sources name Group 1 for eligible military travelers; their descriptions of First differ. This guide does not turn that into a promise of boarding before Group 1.

Sources: [Boarding](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/customer-service/programs-products/military-benefits.html); [Boarding order](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/boarding-process.html). Checked 2026-09-15. The uniform requirement described next belongs to lounge access.

## Admirals Club access: a separate uniform requirement

The official Military section covers U.S. military personnel traveling **in uniform** on a **same-day flight operated by American**. Entry requires military ID and a boarding pass for that flight.

Access is subject to lounge capacity and the location exceptions listed in that section. Do not assume every lounge qualifies. The reviewed Military section does not limit this rule to Military Appreciation Month.

[Admirals Club access, Military: Where you can go and To enter](https://www.aa.com/web/i18n/travel-info/clubs/admirals-club-access.html), checked 2026-09-15. Lounge qualification is not ordinary-fare eligibility, and the uniform condition is not added to the boarding rule.

## Vacation memberships, working dogs and burial flags

### A separate subscription vacation route

The paragraph following Fares on American's benefits page describes vacation savings for U.S. active-duty military, veterans and their families through a subscription membership and its booking route. That paragraph does not publish a percentage or complete redemption procedure. It concerns vacation products, not a universal ordinary military airfare rate.

### Military working dogs and checked pets

The benefits page says military and police working dogs must be listed when the trip is booked. It waives cabin pet charges for trained active military dogs on official duty with written documents. Dogs trained to attack cannot travel in the cabin and must be checked.

Checked pets are accepted at the ticket counter for active-duty U.S. military traveling on assignment, subject to fees and restrictions. This does not make all military pet travel free.

### Military burial flags

The page gives separate handling advice: keep the flag folded and in its presentation case when possible, pack it inside the carry-on bag, and inform screening and airline staff. These are handling instructions, not a fare discount.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I ask about an AA military discount?

Follow American's official instruction to call Reservations and ask about the government or military fare for your market. Availability is not promised on every itinerary.

### Do American Airlines military fares use a fixed percentage?

A unified ordinary-fare percentage, fixed ticket amount and general discount code were not confirmed in the reviewed official Fares text.

### Is an American Airlines veteran discount available to every veteran?

The Fares paragraph does not establish universal veteran or retiree eligibility. The separately mentioned membership vacation route is not an ordinary-fare eligibility rule.

### Does calling Reservations mean online purchase is prohibited?

The reviewed official text gives a telephone inquiry instruction. It does not expressly state an online-purchase prohibition, and this guide does not add one.

### Do baggage, boarding and lounge rules determine fare eligibility?

No universal fare-eligibility conclusion is established by those separate benefit rules. Use the conditions for the benefit you are seeking.

### Does this guide also cover a veterans discount?

Yes. This wording refers to the military-benefit question discussed in this guide. It does not create a separate offer or broaden the eligibility and availability described above.

## Review scope and dates

Reviewed 2026-09-15 using American's official benefits, baggage, boarding, lounge and contact pages. The source child page records browser reads and official web-text reads separately. A security-verification screen or failed request is not treated as readable policy content.

Ordinary military-fare offer-specific start and end dates were not found in the reviewed material. That does not mean permanent validity. Article update dates, historical complaints and the baggage-size comparison dates are not current airfare quote dates.
